Sweet Almond Oil: What It Is and How to Use It
Sweet almond oil is pressed from the kernels of the sweet almond tree, Prunus dulcis. It has a long history in skincare and massage.
Allergy note: almonds are tree nuts. Do not use sweet almond oil if you have a nut allergy.
What is sweet almond oil made of?
It is mostly oleic acid, with some linoleic acid. It is pale gold, with a very mild scent.
Sweet almond or bitter almond?
They are different products. Sweet almond oil is the plant oil used on skin and hair. Bitter almond oil is a scent and flavouring ingredient and is not what you want for this.
What does it feel like?
Sweet almond oil feels soft and light, and it glides easily. That glide is why it has long been used for massage.
How to use sweet almond oil on skin
Smooth a little over damp skin after bathing. It moisturises dry skin and leaves it feeling comfortable.
How to use sweet almond oil on hair
Warm a few drops in your palms and run them through the ends. It leaves hair feeling soft without much weight.
