Rosehip Oil: What It Is and How to Use It
Rosehip oil is pressed from the seeds of rose hips, the small red fruit a wild rose leaves behind after flowering. SEVN uses Rosa canina, the dog rose.
What is rosehip oil made of?
Rosehip oil is rich in linoleic and alpha-linolenic fatty acids. Its colour runs from gold to deep orange, depending on how it has been pressed and filtered.
What does it feel like?
Rosehip oil feels light on skin and leaves it feeling soft and smooth. It is thinner than castor or avocado oil.
How to use rosehip oil on your face
Press a few drops onto damp skin after cleansing, in the morning or evening. Pressing rather than rubbing means you use less.
How to use rosehip oil on hair
Use a drop or two on the ends. Because it feels light, it suits a quick finish on dry hair.
How to store rosehip oil
Oils high in linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids are more delicate than most. Keep rosehip oil closed, cool and out of direct sunlight, and use it by the date on the pack. Amber glass helps.
Rosehip oil vs argan oil
Rosehip feels lighter. Argan feels a little richer and is the more stable of the two. Many people enjoy them together.
Rosehip in SEVN
In the SEVN blend, rosehip sits alongside six other plant oils, including jojoba, which keeps well. See all seven in The Blend.
